Walgreens started out as a neighborhood drug store in 1901 in Chicago, Ill. How Charles R. Walgreen, Sr., got into the drug store business is an interesting story. As a teenager, he accidentally cut off part of his middle finger while working at a shoe factory and had to give up playing sports. Needing to keep his mind busy, he worked at a drug store for a year and a half. Walgreen moved to Chicago in 1893 where over 1,500 drug stores competed. He didn't want to depend on his family's resources, so he worked at several drug stores and convinced one of the owners to let him buy the business. It took him years to pay off the loan. Walgreens has grown into a pharmacy store chain selling a wide range of products, including cosmetics, personal care, sexual wellness, contacts and glasses, school and office supplies, pet supplies, small appliances, groceries and seasonal products. They sell natural and organic products, too.

Annual Sales
For Black Friday, Walgreens offers great deals on toys, beauty products, small gifts and electronics. Food items also go on sale during this time. Walgreens has an after-Christmas sale where holiday items are marked down by 50–90%. The pharmacy sometimes offers BOGO deals during their annual sales.

Live Chat
Live chat is another way of getting help from Walgreens' customer support. To open a live chat, go to the customer service page on the Walgreens website. At the top of the page, there is a red button reading, "Need Help? Live Chat." The chat is available from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. EST. If the button isn't visible during these hours, that means all agents are busy helping other customers.

App Info
Walgreens has an app that shoppers can use to place their orders. Customers can schedule pill reminders, refill prescriptions and track their Rx orders with the app, too. Contactless checkout is another feature of the app. The Walgreens app is available for both Android and iOS devices.

On the company's website, shoppers can view the weekly ad for a particular Walgreens store. Not all locations offer a weekly ad. Walgreens provides free shipping to store services. There is no minimum order value to ship an item to a Walgreens location. Oversized items, however, may not be eligible for ship to store.

Price Match Policy
Walgreens will price match items in the store to products on Walgreens.com. Some items and services don't qualify, such as contact lenses, health services, pharmacy services and photos. Online sales and prices that resulted from a typographical error are also ineligible.

Gift Card Giveaway for Teachers
Walgreens has a WE Teachers program that gives away a $500 gift card every year to 500 teachers. In order to have a chance at winning the gift card, the teacher must be nominated by someone else. The gift card can be used on school supplies.
